Strong communities are well connected communities. As your City Councillor I will support and aid in the development of projects that will provide opportunities to get to know your neighbours, build stronger relationships, and promote safety and inclusion in Mynarski.
HEALTHY
A lack of housing, burnt out buildings, poor active transportation options, food security, a lack of youth programming, addictions and mental health supports - these are all items that affect health and wellness in the ward. The ongoing budget cuts and neglect of our inner-city is creating a public health crisis that must be addressed.
AFFORDABLE
While Mynarski is home to some of Winnipeg’s most historic and innovative businesses, today, the ability to support your family from within our ward is extremely limited. A strong partnership between the City, Province, Economic Renewal Corporations, and local business owners is key to building up Main Street and Selkirk Avenue, providing good local jobs, and making Mynarski a destination that the rest of Winnipeg wants to visit.
Your City Councillor should be an advocate for you and your greater community. Their platform should reflect the priorities and values that are most important to the residents in the ward they represent.
I want to hear what issues concern you, and learn how I can best advocate on your behalf.
In preparation for this campaign, I have met with residents across Mynarski to hear their thoughts and concerns for the future of the ward - and now is your chance to contribute.
This exercise is known as a “SWOT” analysis - together, we compile the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats facing Mynarski in order to help prioritize and strategize for the future. We then took those ideas and turned them into a survey (see further down this page), and over the last few months Mynarski residents were able to provide feedback online to help determine our top priorities.
Top Priorities:
1. Our parks are one of our biggest strengths, and need to be protected and invested in properly.
2. Poverty: Mynarski has some of the highest rates of child poverty in Canada. The City needs to address the rapidly increasing cost of living, and the increase of homelessness as a result.
3. Community Economic Development: Main Street offers huge potential for redevelopment. Collaboration with multiple levels of government in the pursuit of new mixed use development can stimulate positive growth, provide much needed housing, and new economic opportunity for the ward.
4. Investment Into Our City Services: Residents are tired of cuts to every budget besides police and roads.
5. Exploring the possibilities of an official North End Farmer’s Market in a similar model to St. Norbert’s.
6. New innovations towards addressing safety are needed. Our city’s approach only funds reactionary measures, not preventative.
7. We have a historic tree canopy that is in need of protection.
8. Winnipeg is in a housing crisis and the city needs to be part of the solution.
9. The new transit system needs to be amended, including the reinstatement of several key stops across the ward.
